Aberrant protein deposition and neurological disease.

چکیده
The association of protein deposits with neurodegeneration has become a consistent finding in a large group of etiologically diverse diseases (1, 2) (Table I). The protein deposits are generally dense fibrillar structures containing a high percentage of b-pleated sheet secondary structure and can be located in various cellular compartments as well as extracellularly. Moreover, the deposits are generally ubiquitinated and may contain numerous cellular proteins.

Effect of Long-term Exposure to Extremely Low-frequency Electromagnetic Fields on β-amyloid Deposition and Microglia Cells in an Alzheimer Model in Rats
Background: Recently, researchers have considered extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields (ELF-EMFs), as one of the non-invasive therapies, in the treatment of many severe neurological disorders, including Alzheimer Disease (AD). AD is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by the deposition of amyloid plaques in the brain. However, the increase in microglial cells increas...

Objective(s): Epidemiological and biochemical studies conducted over the past two decades have established a strong link between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). However, the exact mechanisms through which aberrations in insulin signaling associated with T2DM contribute to cognitive decline are not yet known. Materials and Methods: In an effort to explore possible m...
متن کاملRole of Aberrant Alternative Splicing in Cancer
Alternative splicing can alter genome sequence and as a consequence, many genes change to oncogenes. This event can also affect protein function and diversity. The growing number of study elucidate the pathological influence of impaired alternative splicing events on numerous disease including cancer. Here, we would like to highlight the significant role of alternative splicing in cancer biolog...
متن کاملChaperone-dependent Neurodegeneration: A Molecular Perspective on Therapeutic Intervention
Maintenance of cellular homeostasis is regulated by the molecular chaperones. Under pathogenic conditions, aberrant proteins are triaged by the chaperone network. These aberrant proteins, known as "clients," have major roles in the pathogenesis of numerous neurological disorders, including tau in Alzheimer's disease, α-synuclein and LRRK2 in Parkinson's disease, SOD-1, TDP-43 and FUS in amyotro...
متن کاملNeurodegenerative aspects of protein aggregation.
Protein aggregation and amyloid fibril deposits are characteristic features of more than twenty pathologic conditions characterized by plaque deposition in the central nervous system. Recent studies point out relationships between protein misfolding and numerous serious diseases. Despite different origins (sporadic, familial or transmissible), they are sometimes called conformational diseases t...
